Happy Africa Day!

Africa Day (May 25)  marks  the founding of  the Organisation of African Unity (AU, formerly OAU) and its contributions and successes over the years. On this day, in 1963, it was founded to fight against colonialism and apartheid. 

Today,  Africa Day is commemorated especially as 202e is  its 60th year.

QWP 2023: Call For Submissions!!!

 

Quramo Publishing's annual literary and arts festival's main event is the Quramo Writers' Prize (QWP), where the winning unpublished author wins a hefty cash prize and the chance to have his or her entry published by the publishing company.

In Memoriam: Andres Garcia

Andres Garcia, one of the last members of the golden age of Mexican Cinema passed away on the 4th of April, 2023. 

The late Dominican Mexican actor was 82. 

Born 1941 in the Dominican Republic, Garcia featured in several films, telenovelas, stage plays  and photo stories. 

His best known telenovela was Televisa's  Tu No Nadie ('No one But You'), which he starred with Lucia Mendez, Salvador Pineda and the late Magda Guzman as his stepmother, Victoria. In 2005, he starred in the supernatural telenovela El Cuerpo del Deseo ('Body of Desire' a.k.a 'Second Chance'), which also starred Mario Cimarro and the late  Lorena Rojas;  a remake of the 1992 Columbian telenovela En cuerpo ajeno ('In a Borrowed Body'). 

Lucia Mendez gave tribute to her late co-star and friend at the time of his death, adding how he left a mark in her heart.

 "Rest in peace #andrésgarcía, our prayers are with you and your family. A great actor, great friend has passed, but our affection will be with you today and always."

On This Day: President Umaru Yar'adua

 

On this day, in 2010, Nigeria lost President Umaru Musa Yar'adua GCFR;   4 months after his return from Saudi Aradia where he recieved treatment for pericarditis. 

President Yar'dua served as Governor of Katsina state from 1999 to 2007 under the umbrella of the People's Democratic Party.
