Did you know that the beloved 1985 telenovela "Tu No Nadie" (No One But You) has a 5th version? I recently discovered this by accident, and I'm still in shock!
This remake, titled "Cabo," was released on October 24, 2022, and ended on February 17, 2023, with a total of 85 episodes. Produced by TelevisaUnivision, it starred Bárbara de Regil as Sophia Chavez, Matías Novoa as Alejandro Noreiga, and Diego Amozurrutia as the villain, Eduardo Torres.
Key Differences:
- The story is set in Cabo, in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur.
- Alejandro's accident was a plane crash.
- Sofia wasn't coerced into revealing the truth to Alejandro; the couple was already in love by then.
- Sofia's rival, Isabella, is partnered by her mother, Jimena, to harm and harass Sofia.
- When they divorced, Alejandro insisted on giving Sofia alimony, which she refused, causing her resentful sister, Rebeca, to insult her.
- Sofia and Rebeca's father, Alfonso, was against Sofia taking Alejandro back, even though Alejandro got him out of jail and refused to live with them.
- Rebeca mostly worked against her sister instead of supporting her, causing Alejandro to kick Sofia out of their house.
- Sofia has Eduardo served with a restraining order after he attempts to assault her.
- Lucia removed Alejandro from his position as CEO of his father's company, Grupo Alva.
- Alejandro cheated on Sofia with Isabella during their estrangement.
- Isabella ran Sofia over with her car, endangering her and Alejandro's unborn child.
- Sofia decides to take a chance with Miguel, a suitor and would-be investor in Alejandro's company. However Miguel, sickly, dies in her arms, leaving her his estate.
- Sofia refused to forgive her sister, Rebecca, for her crimes against her. However, when Isabella arrives to kill Sophia, Rebecca shields her and is shot instead. Isabella is later arrested and sentenced to 20 years for Rebecca's murder.
- Eduardo doesn't die in this version. When he attempts to kill Alejandro again in their final confrontation, his mother, Lucia, knocks him out with a heavy candlestick; leaving him in a permanent vegetative state.
- Sofia and Alejandro reconcile but the telenovela ends before their baby is born.
- There is no Roberto Aguirre story arc.
Trivia:
- Chilean-Mexican actor Matías Novoa is the second actor in his 40s to play the main character, as the late Andrés García was 44 when he starred in the original version.
- The hero's stepmother/villain's mother was played by 2 actresses. Mexican actress Rebecca Jones played the character Lucia Noreiga for 50 episodes before leaving the series. British Mexican actress Azela Robinson took over the role from the 51st episode to the series finale. Rebecca Jones passed away on March 22, 2023, from cancer.
- This fifth version and 4th remake of "Tu O Nadie" was produced by José Alberto Castro for TelevisaUnivision. José is the younger brother of veteran actress Verónica Castro, who played Marianna in the 1979 telenovela "Los ricos también lloran (The Rich Also Cry)" and Rosa in "Rosa Salvaje (Wild Rose)" in 1987. He is also the ex-husband of actress Angélica Rivera, who played Gaviota in "Destilado Amour", and the ex-boyfriend of actress Angelique Boyer, who starred in "Lo que la vida me robó (What Life Took From Me)," along with her current boyfriend, Sebastián Rulli.
